Alumni

What it means to be part of a global network

When asked about the lasting impact of the program, our alumni will invariably point to the global network. This network goes far beyond your own cohort and the many students from the partner schools you get to know during your electives. It is a community of all those who were in the program before you and will join after you. They share not only similar experiences but also common values. And they will respond when you travel to their city and ping them and will suggest meeting up. They will also volunteer business or career advice and connections.

How you stay in touch with each other

The alumni you will meet most often after graduation are those from your own cohort, not surprising given the bonds you created since Launch Week. But you can easily increase your circles by participating in the many events organized by the KS alumni community throughout the year. They now include regular reunions during the summer (on a rooftop) and before the winter holidays as well as the annual golf tournament in September and many other in-person or online events. Watch this space to see what is up next and to register.

How you continue to engage and learn

But being part of the alumni is not only about having fun together. It also involves many opportunities to learn and evolve. You can attend regular alumni events at both Schulich and Kellogg or join trips organized for alumni. And you will be invited to a reunion by Kellogg every five years and to the celebration of KS program’s major milestones. And, as part of life-long learning, you can audit core courses at Schulich and join electives offered by all the part schools, when seats are available after the current students made their choices.

How you can give back

There are many ways you can support the program and help build future generations of students.
Sharing your experiences is an obvious such way, for instance as a panelist during one of our alumni events; or by speaking with friends or colleagues, who you think might benefit from joining the program. You can also agree to speak to prospects who are looking for someone with a relevant background.

You can also help with donations, which will go to support extant awards for incoming students. Or you can fully fund a specific award to support a certain cause for a certain period or with an endowment, like the Franklin Sasarman Simard, William Randolph or Igor Kim New Venture Awards.

Learning how to develop a decision framework and pressure test assumptions – practicing Decision frameworks in Branding class with Prof. Alex Chernev was a pressure cooker where he would call on students to substantiate their answer to the case and have them question whether their logic truly was bulletproof. I now channel my learnings from his class to make every day difficult decisions. His class taught me the value of knowing what major assumptions are, how to question or validate them, and identifying key risks and failure points. I also learned how to articulate each of these points clearly and under pressure. My favorite Chernev quote is: “It doesn’t matter what grade I give you. Life will grade you!”
